Let The Video Wars Commence!

Previously the nominees for Best and Worst music videos were posted here -  now here we have one that is TIED for Funniest, Weirdest and Most Persistent Earworm Video. Do NOT say you were not warned. From Norway, may I present Hurra Torpedo, the world's most famous (and possibly only) kitchen appliance band, with their rendition of the Eighties classic song  "Total Eclipse Of the Heart". The song, and you, will never be the same again. The only excuse I can think of for these guys is that they are in fact Norwegian. That is all.

OK, I 'fess up now - no one loves Cute Overload more than me, most of the time. I go there on my break at work just to ooh and ahh over all the fuzzy, snuggly, "anerable" animals. (They even have their own language developing, as you quickly learn once you visit regularly.)

Well, just in case you need a break from all the sugar, here is some spice - Welcome to "Just A Little Guy" and wallow in the weirdness! Typos and profanity are both rampant here, but it's funny as hell and frequently milk-up-your-nose hilarious. There is a (sort-of) strict rule about NO domestic animals, so you get to see a lot of really unusual exotic beasties. I don't know who this guy is, but he is seriously screwed up. And I mean that in the best way possible.

The best music video EVAH??!!

My votes would include one or two Gondry videos, a slew of Mark Romanek (genius!!!) videos, some Spike Jonze, and of course, most of the Duran Duran catalog. But one of the most creative, cool, fun, and punk videos was released this year by the Swedish band OK GO. Here it goes again, the treadmill video!

And like all good things on the web, it's already inspired fun parodies, like OK LEGO!

The worst music video EVAH??!!

And that is saying a lot - what with Billy Squire, Journey (worship them!!!), StaceyQ and Loverboy walking the face of the planet. But here it is - Apache! By some Danish band.

Nominees for new Ben & Jerry's flavor

The article for the new Ben & Jerry's flavors states that these five flavors are in the running:

• Mojito - lime-based sherbet with mint, brown sugar and rum
• Puttin' on a Ritz - ice cream, caramel and Ritz crackers
• Italian Renaissance - amaretto liqueru ice cream, cherry chunks and sliced almonds
• Wackie Chan - sweet cream and ginger-flavored ice cream, with chocolate-covered fortune cookie bits and fudge swirl
• ApricotAbra (no space!) - mix of apricot chunks, dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream and tart apricot preserves

If I have to choose only one, I would call ApricotAbra - dark chocolate, vanilla & apricot is *lurvely*. What do y'all think?

I'm still sitting here going "holy cow - I had only heard estimates up to $300 million". But no, Westfield's own website is giving the $460 million figure...

It's opening later this month. The fly through is cool. The costs are a lot b/c it's a huge complex, they have to retrofit the crapola out of everything, and they had to save the historic glass dome. Which, it turns out, was really not easy:

Oh, and Westfield just purchased the Metreon from Sony, and Metreon is like a stone's throw away. Between the current mall connecting to the huge new one and Metreon right right right nearby, this is going to get CRAZY around here.

Questions that make you go "Uh..."

This really, really happened to me. I was walking along the Embarcadero with a friend. And three teenagers saw us and asked, "Can you help us with directions?"

"Sure," we replied.

"Which freeway goes to Alcatraz?"

Both of us stood back. Shockingly, they looked local to the bay area. "Uh... Alcatraz is an island," I replied. "There's no freeway."

"I know it's an island. Which freeway goes there?" the lone female asked me.

I paused. I didn't know how to respond. "Uh... there are no roads or bridges there. It was an island that was so hard to get to they built a prison on it..."

"Oh... okay. Thanks..." she said to me, looking at us dubiously, walking off.
